It’s been by no means an armchair ride to the top for elite Albury cyclist Jesse Featonby. At twenty-nine he is hitting his straps in the sport of professional cycling and making huge success.
The former Murray High School student displayed early signs of talent in athletics. Racing for his school and the State, he then went on to represent Australia at the Junior World Championships’. There was a lot of temptation to follow my family’s advice and enroll in a Medical Science Degree in Canberra while still competing locally “At the time, many of my mates were living the dream in Europe in their sport.” Things weren’t quite as Jesse had hoped though. He was homesick, and then he got injured and required surgery on a dislocated shoulder, putting any hope of competing on hold for quite a while.
