With a growing number of multicultural families making up the Australian population, the latest consensus in 2016 revealed 49 per cent of Australians had either been born overseas (first generation Australians) or one or both parents had been born overseas (second generation Australians).
Albury Wodonga Cultural Exchange (AWCE), Albury Wodonga Volunteer Resource Bureau and Settlement Services in conjunction with Albury City Council launched an installation of Albury’s multicultural community who has chosen Albury as their home.
The installation is located on the external walkways leading to the Albury Library Museum, Retro Lane Café and Lavington Library. Longing to Belong is made up of 48 tile decals featuring portraits of Albury residents. Taking time to celebrate the cultural diversity and all that it can offer our community, the organisations commissioned local photographer Jason Robins to capture the diverse cultures in the region at iconic locations on the Murray River at Noreiul Park, Wonga Wetlands and Albury TAFE.
