Many of us have experienced the gut wrenching heartache of tragedy, be it through accident, illness or misfortune, to those closest to us, or been touched by stories of adversity and hardship within our very own community. We often feel helpless and wish there was a way in which we could come together to make someone’s life just a little better, ease the burden and provide some assistance, however minuscule it may seem. In a conversation over a glass of bubbles, the shared goals and beneficent nature of two local women saw the inception of Bubbly Charity.

Bubbly Charity is a local, non-profit organisation that was started in 2008 by Susan White. A number of generous women have offered their assistance along the way and the current committee has five long term participants, Susan White, Lisa Stevenson, Michelle Brooks, Cynthia Hansford and Jo Barton, all local mothers that have come together with a mission to raise money for families in need in the local area.

It began simply, gathering small groups of women to enjoy a movie and a glass of champagne for a donation to Bubbly Charity. This support has grown throughout the years, with the gathering growing to an annual ladies luncheon on Oaks Day at the Albury Racing Club, hosting 300 women. With this community support and the generous donations and sponsorship from local business, Bubbly Charity has been able raise over $130,000 with all proceeds given back to families within our own community.

These funds have given families the support to cover costs such as:  medical expenses, modifying vehicles for wheelchairs, purchasing memorials, Christmas presents, fuel vouchers, school fees, cleaners, holidays for families experiencing the loss of a loved one.

Bubbly Charity has also offered financial donations to organisations

  • Cooinda Family Support Services
  • Quamby House (Albury men’s shelter)
  • Faith Hope & Dreams (Woodstock Early Intervention)
  • Wewak Special School
  • James McQuillan Trust Fund
  • Albury Wodonga Juvenile Diabetes
  • Secret Garden (Hume Public school)
  • Country Hope
  • Aware Industries

Bubbly Charity is currently asking for donations to assist the children of Adrian Heber, who tragically lost his life in a workplace accident in Wodonga last month. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated and donations can be made to Bubbly Charity at Hume Bank, BSB 640000 Account 575984516  with reference of HEBER.

Every year Bubbly Charity host a ladies luncheon on Oaks Day during the Spring Carnival at Albury Race Club. With over 300 ladies enjoying the beautiful spring racing fashion and flowing champagne they help raise over $12,000 every year. Tickets are now on sale for the luncheon with all proceeds going to the Heber children and Ellas Ear.
